What We Do:
In 2024, Tenant Organizers & Advocates (TOA) has been shaking things up—like a tenant rights superhero squad! We've been empowering renters and fighting for housing justice all year long. Early in the year, we wrote our business plan, created by-laws, applied for 501(c)(3) status, and gained a fiscal sponsor—then we hit the ground running!
By the end of October, we’ve reached 628 tenants, conducted 30 workshops, and rocked 17 tabling events across the state—and there's still two months of 2024 left!
Educate: You can’t enforce your rights if you don’t know them
We’ve been out there, educating Washington State renters on their rights from Seattle to Spokane, with our awesome team of college volunteers stepping up to help their fellow students learn the ropes of tenant protections. In September 2024, TOA expanded its reach by launching a brand-new website, with a goal to add fresh content weekly, providing vital resources and education to tenants across Washington.
Advocate: Advocate for yourself and then for others
We’ve hosted tabling events in various community spaces, connecting face-to-face with tenants, answering their questions, and raising awareness about their rights. TOA is out here making tenant advocacy both informative and fun—because who says fighting for your rights can’t be done with a smile?
Organize: Unite for change, because together we are TOA!
We’ve been networking like pros, building alliances with other organizations to strengthen the tenant fight! From sharing our mission and values to planning for 2025 and beyond, TOA has been out there forming partnerships, organizing for change, and making sure we’re ready to keep up the momentum!
